How To Become a Member
To become a member of the Yarra Pistol Club you must complete several steps:
1. Arrange an interview with the Secretary and fill out the following forms:
- Form 1 - Victorian Amateur Pistol Association membership application
- Form M - Yarra Pistol Club application form
- Form 1a - signed by the Secretary. This is a letter of introduction to your local police asking to take your fingerprints. The certificate at the bottom of this letter is to be filled out by the Officer taking your fingerprints and returned with the other application documents.
2. Supply two passport-style photographs (30mm x 35mm), which are to be frontal head and shoulders.
3. Supply two character references. These should preferably be typed on company letterhead from people who have known you for at least two years, such as employers, solicitors, accountants, clergymen, bank managers, etc...
4. The completed forms, photos, fingerprint certificate and references should be sent or handed to the Secretary who will then advise you to attend the next club committee meeting.
5. The committee interviews prospective members. Yarra is a private club, and therefore the approval of membership is at the sole discretion of the committee.
The first six months of membership is probationary, you will be required to apply for a pistol permit from the Victorian Police to enable you to participate in competitions. At the expiry of the permit you may apply for a full target pistol licence and apply for your first handgun.
